Vive le Cheese and Wine Tasting Night

Back at the beginning of June I was invited along to a French Cheese and Wine Tasting night held at Peckhams in Glasgow.  The evening was hosted by Phoebe Weller (Roving Fromagière and general cheese whiz) and was designed to take us on a taste Tour de France, sampling 10 cheeses which Phoebe expertly match with French grape varietal wines, like chardonnay and merlot.

Now I have to admit that this kind of event isn't normally my cup of tea.  Cheese is great and all but at the end of the meal there is never a dilemma for me to pick between dessert or the cheese platter, dessert wins hands down every time.  And as for wine ... well I am one of those people who can't drink the stuff, I get the hang over while half way through the first class ... make mine a cocktail please!  So you may be wondering why on earth I attended such an event, well my Sis In Law loves cheese and wine, and as a general rule, she is one of those people who will pick the cheese platter over a dessert, and as I could take a friend along with me I knew she would enjoy the evening.  The other plus was that Jac from Tinned Tomatoes was also going to be there!

Sis in Law and I arrived stylishly late, thanks to the increasingly unreliable train service (at least it was just a signal fault at Waverley Station and not the latest debacle of a derailed train!) so we missed the first two cheeses, for a full list please head over to Jac's post for all the details.  What I can tell you though is that the two blue cheeses we tasted right at the end of the evening were my all time favourites, Bleu de Causses and Bleu d'Auvergne.  Although I was surprised by how salty they both were, the first was great on Oat Cakes (kindly provided in my goody bag from the evening!) and the second was lovely in Four Cheese Gnocchi.

Blue Cheese!
The evening was also a great opportunity to meet other food bloggers and I was delighted to be able to meet the faces behind The Glasgow Food Blog, Briony and her brand spanking new Husband!! (We all know how much I love a good wedding story!)

Jac and I (don't be fooled by that glass of wine in my hand, its a prop! Lol)
