Last night Harvey Nichols hosted its second ever Foodie Evening at the Fourth Floor Bar and Restaurant (details of the first one can be found here). This year's event has a tropical theme and they did not fail to deliver, complete with a Jamaican Steel Band which really helped to set the scene ... as did the frozen tropical juice and fruit icy poles [lollies or popsicles depending on where you are from!] and the 'Totem' punch made from Pink Grapefruit vodka, pineapple juice and ginger ale ... yum!
There were a number of master classes on offer, the sushi class with Yo! Sushi lead to me trying my first ever sushi ... well ... I've had sushi before, but not sushi with raw salmon ... but I manned up and discovered that there is no way to eat sushi in two small bites!
I've been wanting to try Bubble Tea for the longest time and last night I finally got my opportunity. Bubbleology describe this latest phenomenon as "a wide variety of refreshing flavoured fruit teas and milk teas served ice cold or piping hot with chewy natural tapioca balls that you suck up through a big fat straw! A far cry from a cup, saucer and an elevated little finger!" I tried the strawberry fruit tea ... imagine my disappointment as I discovered that I don't like tapioca balls ;0(
While I was watching one of the Fourth Floor Chef's making garlic aoili, rocket pesto and roasted red pepper dip in the kitchens, some of my companions manged to get a personalised lesson in how to make a milk foam love heart on top of hot chocolate ...
Have you seen this lady at your local WW meeting lately? |
The finished hot chocs ... I may have had a quick slurp or 6 of the one on the right! |
Next up was the Caorunn Gin stall, complete with personalised cocktails.
Or maybe this one should be directed to the nearest AA meeting! |
Aren't they the cutest!! Word to the wise though, these bears are definatley made for eating. I bought one at Chrostmas and left him int he fridge in the hopes of preserving him but it didn't work!
At the end of the night was the goodie bag, complete with cupcake, whiskey, coffee, magazines and our very own Harvey Nics Edinburgh apron's which we get to wear throughout the evening. This last picture is one for the Aussies, althought the price tag is enough to remind you of which hemisphere (and shop!) you are in ;0)
