Snow in September?

They reckon we'll be getting snow in Edinburgh this month.  If that is the case then there is no time like the present to brush up on the basics of snowman bmaking!

These little guys have been made with the basic Vanilla Sugar Dough recipe.

They were firstly dressed in rolled out sugar paste which was 'glued' to their bodies (cookie base) with apricot jam.

To make their top hats, I added lots of blackberry food paste to some white sugar paste.  It didn't seem to matter how much paste colouring I added to the sugar paste though, my hands got blacker and the sugar paste stayed a shabby chic greyish black.

The top hats were 'glued' on with apricot jam too.

Then it came time to give them each their own individual personalities - this was done with a food grade marker pen.

First came eyes and buttons ....

and then smiles and carrot-ish noses!

These are pretty much these first batch of cookies I have ever attempted to decorate.  They are a bit on the 'juvenile' side as far as decorated cookies go but I'm pretty smitten with them.  In fact, I'm so smitten I can't even bring myself to eat one .... but Hubby and our co-workers don't seem to have the same attachment to them and prefer them in their tummies!
