Children In Need - Bandanna Cookies

Yesterday was the culmination of a week long effort of fundraising in my office for Children In Need. My team laid on quite a spread through out the week to encourage everyone in our office to dig deep for this cause, we even managed to get the Senior Managers to take part in a 'Bid Off' so one of them would have to spend the day dressed as Pudsey. He took it on the chin and even let us paint his face, glitter and all!

We also had Mocktails for sale and a Guess How Many Sweeties in the Jar competition to name but a few of the activities we had throughout the week and then yesterday we had a cake sale. I made these biscuits, somewhere in my head the Smarties in the cookies tied in with Pudsey's polka dot bandanna - I'm not sure anybody else got that connection though!

By 3pm yesterday afternoon, our small office manged to raise just over £300 for CIN - phew!

Bandanna Cookies (AKA Smarties Cookies)
100g butter, softened
100g light muscovado sugar
1 tbsp golden syrup
150g SR flour
85g smarties

Preheat the oven to 180C/fan 160C. Beat the butter and sugar in a bowl until light and creamy, then beat in the syrup.

Work in half the flour. Stir in the smarties with the remaining flour and work the dough together with your fingers. Divide into 14 balls. Place them well apart on baking sheets. Do not flatten them.

Bake for 12 mins until pale golden at the edges. Cool on a wire rack. These cookies will keep for up to 4 days in an airtight tin.

Hubby was most upset that only two cookies out of all the batches managed to make it home again! This recipe produces a 'smallish' cookie that is quite crunchy with the smarties just peeking through the cookie mixture, I was kind of hoping for a slightly larger [read:giant] and chewier type of cookie where the smarties made their presence known. I'll keep searching but for now everyone seems pretty happy with this version.
